Visiting Dick Proenneke’s cabin in Twin Lakes

We recently took a couple to visit Dick Proenneke’s cabin in Twin Lakes.  The husband has been a long time fan of Proenneke and his famous documentary and journals. For those of you who aren’t as familiar, Dick Proenneke was a naturalist who lived alone for 30 years in Twin Lakes, Alaska very simply in a log cabin he built himself from resources found on the land.  Proenneke documented everyday in journals and video of his life in the wilderness.  These recordings evenDick Proenneke's cabin in Twin Lakestually aired on PBS in a documentary called Alone in the WIlderness.  An amazing trip that’s not as far as most would think.

My husband and I would be interested to see Dick Proenneke’s cabin and the brown bears at Brooks Falls.
How much and when is the best time?
    Thank you.

    1. Hi Jutta!
The trip to Dick Proenneke’s cabin is $499 per person and we can take you anytime during our regular operating season of May – September, weather dependent.
We go to Brooks falls mostly in July, when the bears are in the falls fishing for salmon. This trip is $599 per person.
Please let us know if you have any further questions!

Hey – I think WE are the couple you are talking about who went to Dick Proenneke’s cabin!!! Mark – Gary wants to know why you didn’t post the picture of us next to the plane at Twin Lakes with Dick’s cabin in the background???? LOL! And yes, it was an awesome, once-in-a-lifetime experience. We enjoyed every second of it, pour over the photos we took often, and relive our day at Twin Lakes thru wonderful memories. Mark was an excellent pilot, giving us all kinds of great information, and talking to me about one of my other favorite subjects – Deadliest Catch – and all the scoop he knows!

Would encourage everyone to take the flight to Twin Lakes and spend a magical two hours at Dick’s cabin – it is truly an adventure, and it MADE our Alaska trip! Thanks Steller Air, for the great day we had flying with you!

Say hi to Olympia for us – we hope she got to watch “Alone in the Wilderness” and read the book!!!!
